H.F. _____ Section 1. NEW SECTION . 12K.1 Steel armament produced in 1 China —— purchase with public moneys prohibited. 2 1. As used in this section: 3 a. “Armament” means body armor or other protective equipment 4 used by a peace officer. 5 b. “Law enforcement agency” means a state-level or 6 county-level department, agency, or office that employs peace 7 officers. 8 c. “Peace officer” means the same as defined in section 9 801.4. 10 d. “Public moneys” means moneys deriving from tax revenues 11 that are appropriated to, granted to, or transferred to a law 12 enforcement agency. “Public moneys” does not include privately 13 funded grants, gifts, or donations. 14 2. A law enforcement agency shall not use public moneys to 15 purchase or otherwise acquire steel armament that was wholly 16 or partially produced in China. 17 EXPLANATION 18 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 19 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 20 This bill prohibits a law enforcement agency from using 21 public moneys to purchase or otherwise acquire steel armament 22 that was wholly or partially produced in China.
