Section
1.
Section
149.3,
subsection
4,
Code
2023,
is

amended
by
striking
the
subsection
and
inserting
in
lieu
2
thereof
the
following:

Have
successfully
completed
two
years
in
a
residency
4
program
approved
by
the
council
on
podiatric
medical
education.

As
part
of
the
initial
license
renewal,
the
licensee
shall
6
provide
documentation
showing
completion
of
a
residency
program
7
approved
by
the
council
on
podiatric
medical
education.
This
8
subsection
applies
to
all
applicants
who
graduate
from
a
9
school
of
podiatry
on
or
after
the
effective
date
of
this
Act.

The
board
shall
adopt
rules
for
the
implementation
of
this
11
subsection.

EXPLANATION

The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with
14
the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

This
bill
requires
an
applicant
for
a
license
to
practice
16
podiatry
to
have
completed
two
years
in
a
residency
program
17
approved
by
the
council
on
podiatric
medical
education.
The
18
bill
also
requires
a
licensee
to
provide
documentation
showing
19
the
completion
of
such
a
residency
program
at
the
time
of
the
20
licensee’s
first
license
renewal.
This
requirement
applies
to
21
all
applicants
who
graduate
from
a
school
of
podiatry
on
or
22
after
the
effective
date
of
the
bill.
Under
current
law,
an
23
applicant
must
have
completed
a
residency
program
as
determined
24
by
the
board
of
podiatry
by
rule.
