MEYER , SIEGRIST , GRASSLEY , BOSSMAN , WILLS , KONFRST , WINDSCHITL , FRY , and WILZ A Resolution designating February 28, 2023, as 1 Community College Day. 2 WHEREAS, the first junior college in Iowa, a 3 two-year postsecondary educational institution, was 4 established in Mason City in 1918; and 5 WHEREAS, credit enrollment in community colleges in 6 Iowa has increased progressively since their inception, 7 with nearly 118,000 students taking over 1.5 million 8 credit hours in the last calendar year; and 9 WHEREAS, minority enrollment in community colleges 10 in Iowa continues to increase, with a record high of 11 24.3 percent recorded in the last academic year; and 12 WHEREAS, more than 17,000 credit awards were 13 successfully achieved by students in the last academic 14 year, and 15.7 percent of students continued their 15 education at a four-year school after receiving an 16 award; and 17 WHEREAS, in the last academic year, the Iowa Skilled 18 Worker and Job Creation Fund provided training and 19 support to more than 1,000 Gap Tuition Assistance 20 Program participants, 2,800 Pathways for Academic 21 Career and Employment Program (PACE) participants, 22 and 95,000 teachers and kindergarten through grade 23 12 students who engaged in work-based learning 24 opportunities; NOW THEREFORE, 25 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, 26 That the House of Representatives designates February 27 -1- LSB 2513YH (4) 90 jda/rn 1/ 2
