MEYER , MOHR , GRABER , SIEGRIST , and BEST A Resolution honoring and congratulating Caitlin 1 Clark for her extraordinary accomplishments and 2 establishing February 22, 2024, as Caitlin Clark day 3 in the state of Iowa. 4 WHEREAS, West Des Moines native and Dowling Catholic 5 alumnus Caitlin Clark began her university basketball 6 career at the University of Iowa; and 7 WHEREAS, she set two University of Iowa records 8 during the 2023 season for most points scored in a 9 season (1,055) and most assists in a single season 10 (327); and 11 WHEREAS, she broke two NCAA records for most 12 -1- LSB 6340YH (10) 90 dg/jm 1/ 3
H.R. 110 three-point field goals in a single tournament (24) and 13 most points scored in a single tournament (191), and 14 became the first college basketball player to score 15 41 points in a triple-double effort during the NCAA 16 tournament; and 17 WHEREAS, she and her teammates have won two 18 Big Ten Championships and were the 2023 national 19 runners-up; and 1 WHEREAS, she became the first basketball player in 2 NCAA history to have both scored over 3,000 points and 3 have 1,000 assists; and 4 WHEREAS, on February 15, 2024, during the University 5 of Iowa Hawkeyes women’s basketball team’s 106 to 89 6 victory over the University of Michigan Wolverines, 7 Caitlin Clark made history when she scored 49 points, 8 simultaneously setting the single-game point record for 9 University of Iowa women’s basketball and becoming the 10 most prolific scorer in NCAA women’s basketball history 11 with a total of 3,569 career points; and 12 WHEREAS, her remarkable display of athletic talent 13 has brought nationwide attention to women’s basketball 14 as evidenced by the sold out arenas and record-breaking 15 television viewership whenever she plays; and 16 WHEREAS, Caitlin Clark’s extraordinary journey 17 with the Hawkeyes has helped advance women’s sports 18 throughout the world; NOW THEREFORE, 19 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, 20 That the House of Representatives honors Caitlin 21 Clark as one of the greatest collegiate athletes of 22 all time and a prime example of the pinnacle of Iowa 23 -2- LSB 6340YH (10) 90 dg/jm 2/ 3
H.R. 110 sportsmanship and athleticism, and eagerly awaits her 24 future accomplishments; and 25 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the House of 26 Representatives honors Hawkeye guard number 22, Caitlin 27 Clark, by declaring February 22, 2024, as Caitlin Clark 28 day in the state of Iowa; and 29 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That upon adoption, the 30 Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives shall 1 prepare an official copy of this resolution for 2 presentation to Caitlin Clark, Head Coach Lisa Bluder, 3 and the University of Iowa Hawkeyes women’s basketball 4 team. 5 -3- LSB 6340YH (10) 90 dg/jm 3/ 3
