House Resolution 10 - Introduced HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 10 BY KONFRST and WOOD A Resolution recognizing National Speech and Debate 1 Education Day. 2 WHEREAS, National Speech and Debate Education Day is 3 annually celebrated on the first Friday in March; and 4 WHEREAS, we celebrate National Speech and Debate 5 Education Day this year on March 3, 2023; and 6 WHEREAS, the National Speech & Debate Association, 7 in conjunction with national and local partners, 8 established this event to promote better instruction 9 in speech and debate across all grade levels and to 10 highlight the pivotal roles these abilities play in 11 personal advocacy, social movements, and public policy 12 making; and 13 WHEREAS, speech and debate education helps students 14 develop important skills in communication, critical 15 thinking, creativity, and collaboration through the 16 practice of public speaking; and 17 WHEREAS, participants in speech and debate education 18 learn not only to analyze and express complex ideas 19 effectively but also to listen, concur, question, and 20 dissent with reason and compassion; and 21 WHEREAS, across the country, countless educators 22 devote in-school, after-school, and weekend time to 23 support their students in speech and debate practices 24 and competitions, and the example of hard work and 25 dedication they set has a lasting, positive impact on 26 their pupils; and 27 WHEREAS, the skills learned through speech and 28 -1- LSB 2258HH (3) 90 dg/rn 1/ 2
