H.F. 94 Section 1. Section 715A.1, Code 2023, is amended by adding 1 the following new subsection: 2 NEW SUBSECTION . 2A. “Movie prop money” means a product 3 produced by a company or corporation to represent authentic 4 money for use by filmmakers, directors, or photographers for 5 use in film or theatrical productions or in print media. 6 Sec. 2. NEW SECTION . 715A.6C Movie prop money. 7 A person who, with the intent to defraud or injure anyone, 8 utters movie prop money for the purpose of obtaining property 9 or services, commits the following: 10 1. For property or services exceeding ten thousand dollars 11 in value, a class “C” felony. 12 2. For property or services exceeding one thousand five 13 hundred dollars in value but not exceeding ten thousand dollars 14 in value, a class “D” felony. 15 3. For property or services exceeding seven hundred fifty 16 dollars in value but not exceeding one thousand five hundred 17 dollars in value, an aggravated misdemeanor. 18 4. For property or services exceeding three hundred dollars 19 in value but not exceeding seven hundred fifty dollars in 20 value, a serious misdemeanor. 21 5. For property or services not exceeding three hundred 22 dollars in value, a simple misdemeanor. 23 EXPLANATION 24 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 25 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 26 This bill relates to forgery involving movie prop money, and 27 provides penalties. 28 The bill provides that a person who, with the intent to 29 defraud or injure anyone, utters movie prop money for the 30 purpose of obtaining property or services, commits an offense 31 ranging from a simple misdemeanor to a class “C” felony 32 depending on the value of the property or services. 33 The bill defines “movie prop money” as a product produced by 34 a company or corporation to represent authentic money for use 35 -1- LSB 1612HV (2) 90 as/rh 1/ 2
