H.F. 602 Section 1. NEW SECTION . 279.77 Student identification cards 1 —— suicide prevention information. 2 A public school that issues identification cards to students 3 in grades seven through twelve shall include on either side of 4 the identification card the your life Iowa crisis telephone and 5 text numbers. A public school that issues identification cards 6 to students in grades five and six may include on either side 7 of the identification card the your life Iowa crisis telephone 8 and text numbers. 9 Sec. 2. APPLICABILITY. This Act applies to student 10 identification cards issued on or after the effective date 11 of this Act. A school that has a supply of unused student 12 identification cards shall use that supply prior to complying 13 with the requirements of this Act relating to student 14 identification cards. 15 EXPLANATION 16 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 17 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 18 This bill requires public schools to include on either side 19 of identification cards issued to students in grades seven 20 through twelve the your life Iowa crisis telephone and text 21 numbers. The bill authorizes a public school that issues 22 identification cards to students in grades five and six to do 23 so as well. 24 The bill applies to student identification cards issued on 25 or after the effective date of the bill.
