H.F. 487 Section 1. Section 556.9, subsection 2, paragraph c, Code 1 2023, is amended to read as follows: 2 c. For purposes of this section , “gift certificate” means a 3 merchandise certificate or electronic gift card conspicuously 4 designated as a gift certificate or electronic gift card, and 5 generally purchased by a buyer for use by a person other than 6 the buyer. “Gift certificate” includes chamber bucks. 7 Sec. 2. Section 556.9, subsection 2, Code 2023, is amended 8 by adding the following new paragraph: 9 NEW PARAGRAPH . d. For purposes of this section, “chamber 10 bucks” means a gift certificate offered for purchase through 11 a local chamber of commerce that can be redeemed by a 12 participating local business within the area where the chamber 13 of commerce is located. 14 EXPLANATION 15 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 16 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 17 This bill relates to the disposition of specified forms of 18 gift certificates referred to as chamber bucks. 19 The bill defines “chamber bucks” to mean a gift certificate 20 for merchandise as defined in Code section 556.9 that is 21 purchased through a chamber of commerce for redemption in the 22 participating local business community.
