H.F. 2484 Section 1. Section 481C.2A, subsection 5, paragraph b, Code 1 2024, is amended to read as follows: 2 b. (1) In addition to other times the department finds 3 necessary, the department shall allow licenses and permits 4 issued pursuant to this section to be used in the months of 5 September, October, November, and December. Additionally, 6 the department shall allow licenses issued pursuant to this 7 section to be used in any county during the same time period 8 as the January antlerless deer only hunting season established 9 pursuant to section 483A.8, subsection 9, even if the county 10 in which the license is used does not qualify for the January 11 antlerless deer only hunting season. 12 (2) There shall be an annual deer depredation season from 13 September 1 through September 15 for any person possessing a 14 valid license and tag issued pursuant to this section. The 15 method of take for the deer depredation season shall be a rifle 16 using a cartridge approved by the department, a shotgun, a 17 muzzleloader, a handgun, a crossbow, or a bow. 18 EXPLANATION 19 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 20 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 21 This bill relates to the use of deer depredation licenses. 22 Current law requires the department of natural resources (DNR) 23 to allow deer depredation licenses to be used in the months of 24 September, October, November, and December. The bill requires 25 DNR to also allow the use of deer depredation licenses in any 26 county during the same time period as the January antlerless 27 deer only hunting season established pursuant to Code section 28 483A.8(9), even if the county in which the license is used 29 does not qualify for the January antlerless deer only hunting 30 season. 31 The bill also creates a designated deer depredation season 32 from September 1 through September 15. A person possessing 33 a deer depredation license and tag may use a rifle with an 34 approved cartridge, a shotgun, a muzzleloader, a handgun, a 35 -1- LSB 5159HV (3) 90 lh/js 1/ 2
