H.F. 2282 Section 1. RADON AWARENESS, EDUCATION, AND OUTREACH —— 1 TESTING KITS —— APPROPRIATION. There is appropriated from the 2 general fund of the state to the department of health and human 3 services for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2024, and ending 4 June 30, 2025, the following amount or so much thereof as is 5 necessary to support radon awareness, education, and outreach 6 efforts, including the provision of radon testing kits: 7 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . $ 300,000 8 1. Of the amount appropriated in this section, the 9 department of health and human services shall use $280,000 10 to support the efforts of the Iowa radon program to enhance 11 radon awareness, education, and outreach, including through 12 collaboration with the Iowa cancer consortium and other state 13 partners. 14 2. Of the amount appropriated in this section, the 15 department of health and human services shall use $20,000 to 16 provide home radon testing kits, available free of charge 17 through the department’s contract with the American lung 18 association, and through local health departments. The 19 department shall provide a link on the department’s internet 20 site for members of the public to order a radon testing kit 21 through the American lung association, the Iowa radon hotline, 22 or local health departments to facilitate the ordering of radon 23 testing kits. 24 EXPLANATION 25 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 26 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 27 This bill relates to radon awareness, education, and 28 outreach. 29 The bill appropriates $300,000 from the general fund of the 30 state to the department of health and human services (HHS) for 31 fiscal year 2024-2025 to support radon awareness, education, 32 and outreach efforts, including the provision of radon testing 33 kits. 34 The bill appropriates $280,000 to HHS to support the 35 -1- LSB 6004YH (6) 90 pf/ko 1/ 2
H.F. 2282 efforts of the Iowa radon program to enhance radon awareness, 1 education, and outreach, including through the Iowa cancer 2 consortium and other state partners. 3 The bill requires HHS to use $20,000 of the amount 4 appropriated to provide for home radon testing kits, to be 5 available free of charge through a contract with the American 6 lung association, and through local health departments.
