A
candidate
or
candidate’s
committee
shall
not
accept

contributions
of
greater
than
one
hundred
dollars
in
total
from

all
persons
not
living
in
or
incorporated
or
organized
under

the
laws
of
this
state.

It

the
intent
of
the
general
assembly
that
this

section
be
interpreted
so
that
the
outcomes
of
Iowa
elections

are
determined
by
the
people
of
Iowa
and
that
contributions

come
mostly
from
the
people
of
Iowa.

EXPLANATION

The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with

the
explanation’s
substance

members

the
general
assembly.

This
bill
prohibits
a
candidate
for
public
office
or
14
a
candidate’s
committee
from
accepting
contributions
of
15
greater
than
$100
in
total
from
all
persons
not
living
in
16
or
incorporated
or
organized
under
the
laws
of
this
state.

The
bill
states
the
general
assembly’s
intent
that
the
bill
18
be
interpreted
so
that
the
outcomes
of
Iowa
elections
are
19
determined
by
the
people
of
Iowa.
By
operation
of
law,
a
20
person
who
willfully
violates
a
provision
of
the
bill
is
guilty
21
of
a
serious
misdemeanor.
A
serious
misdemeanor
is
punishable
22
by
confinement
for
no
more
than
one
year
and
a
fine
of
at
least
23
$430
but
not
more
than
$2,560.
