H.F. 2177 Section 1. Section 256E.7, subsection 2, Code 2024, is 1 amended by adding the following new paragraph: 2 NEW PARAGRAPH . 0t. Be subject to and comply with the 3 requirements of section 299.1, subsection 3, relating to 4 absences from school because of involvement in an activity 5 or project sponsored by a 4-H club or the future farmers of 6 America in the same manner as a school district. 7 Sec. 2. Section 299.1, Code 2024, is amended by adding the 8 following new subsection: 9 NEW SUBSECTION . 3. The board of directors of each public 10 school district and the governing body of each accredited 11 nonpublic school shall adopt a policy that requires the school 12 district or the accredited nonpublic school to grant a student 13 an excused absence when the student is absent from school 14 because of the student’s involvement in an activity or project 15 sponsored by a 4-H club or the future farmers of America. The 16 policy shall also require the school district or accredited 17 nonpublic school to allow a student who is absent from school 18 because of the student’s involvement in an activity or project 19 sponsored by a 4-H club or the future farmers of America to 20 make up any classwork the student was not able to complete as a 21 result of the absence. 22 EXPLANATION 23 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 24 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 25 This bill requires boards of directors of school districts, 26 governing boards of charter schools, and authorities in charge 27 of accredited nonpublic schools to adopt policies related to 28 excusing student absences for 4-H club or future farmers of 29 America activities. 30 The bill requires the board of directors of each school 31 district, the governing board of a charter school, and the 32 authorities in charge of each accredited nonpublic school to 33 adopt a policy that requires the school to grant a student 34 an excused absence when the student is absent from school 35 -1- LSB 5864HH (1) 90 jda/jh 1/ 2
