NEW SECTION . 279.84 Report cards. 1 The board of directors of a school district shall provide 2 the parent or guardian of each student enrolled in the school 3 district with a printed copy of the student’s report card in 4 one of the following ways: 5 1. By mailing the report card to the parent or guardian. 6 2. By providing the report card to the student during the 7 school day and directing the student to take the report card 8 home to the student’s parent or guardian. 9 Sec. 2. IMPLEMENTATION OF ACT. Section 25B.2, subsection 10 3, shall not apply to this Act. 11 EXPLANATION 12 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 13 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 14 This bill requires school districts to provide the parent 15 or guardian of each student enrolled in the school district 16 with a printed copy of the student’s report card. The bill 17 establishes that school districts may fulfill this requirement 18 either by mailing the report card to the parent or guardian or 19 by providing the report card to the student and directing the 20 student to take the report card home to the student’s parent 21 or guardian. 22 The bill may include a state mandate as defined in Code 23 section 25B.3. The bill makes inapplicable Code section 24 25B.2, subsection 3, which would relieve a school district 25 from complying with a state mandate if funding for the cost of 26 the state mandate is not provided or specified.
