1.
A
physician
assistant
may,
consistent
with
federal
law
3
and
regulations,
prescribe
and
administer
buprenorphine
and
4
other
medications
used
in
the
medication-assisted
treatment
of
5
opioid
use
disorders.

2.
The
board
of
medicine
shall
adopt
rules
for
the
7
implementation
of
this
section.
The
rules
shall
allow
8
a
physician
assistant
who
has
received
a
waiver
from
the
9
federal
drug
enforcement
administration
to
prescribe
and
10
administer
a
medication
described
in
subsection
1
provided
11
that
the
physician
assistant’s
supervising
physician
is
12
eligible
to
receive
a
waiver
from
the
federal
drug
enforcement
13
administration.

EXPLANATION

The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with
16
the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

This
bill
allows
a
physician
assistant
to
prescribe
and
18
administer
buprenorphine
and
other
medications
used
in
the
19
medication-assisted
treatment
of
opioid
use
disorders
in
a
20
manner
consistent
with
federal
law
and
regulations.
The
bill
21
requires
the
board
of
medicine
to
adopt
rules
to
administer
the
22
bill,
which
shall
allow
a
physician
assistant
who
has
received
23
a
waiver
from
the
federal
drug
enforcement
administration
to
24
prescribe
and
administer
a
medication
described
in
the
bill
if
25
the
physician
assistant’s
supervising
physician
is
eligible
to
26
receive
such
a
waiver.
