Senate Resolution 117 - Introduced SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 117 BY COMMITTEE ON RULES AND ADMINISTRATION A Resolution honoring Senator Robert Hogg for his 1 service in the Iowa Senate. 2 WHEREAS, Senator Robert Hogg was first elected to 3 the Iowa House of Representatives in 2002, and after 4 two terms he was elected to the Iowa Senate in 2006, 5 representing the Cedar Rapids area; and 6 WHEREAS, Senator Hogg, a fourth-generation Iowan, 7 has long resided in Cedar Rapids with his wife, 8 Kathryn, and children, Robert, Dorothy, and Isabel, 9 and has continued a Cedar Rapids tradition of sending 10 capable, dedicated, and experienced representation to 11 the Statehouse; and 12 WHEREAS, through his employment as an attorney, 13 Senator Hogg brought an extensive legal background to 14 the Senate; and 15 WHEREAS, during his time in the Senate, Senator 16 Hogg has championed Cedar Rapids’ historic flood 17 recovery, as well as statewide flood recovery and 18 mitigation efforts including the creation of the 19 Iowa Flood Center; solar power and other renewable 20 energy initiatives; protecting Iowa’s environment 21 and preserving Iowa’s natural resources; Iowa’s 22 preschool program, STEM education, and other education 23 initiatives; the Smokefree Air Act, the child safety 24 seat law, expansion of civil rights protections, and 25 other public health, safety, and equity matters; and 26 expanded worker training programs; and has literally 27 written the book on combating climate change; and 28 -1- LSB 6258SV (5) 89 je/rn 1/ 3
S.R. 117 WHEREAS, during his Senate tenure, Senator Hogg 1 has served as Minority Leader of the Senate and 2 served on the Appropriations, Education, Environment 3 and Energy Independence (Vice Chairperson), Ethics, 4 Government Oversight (Chairperson), Judiciary 5 (Chairperson), Local Government (Ranking Member), 6 Natural Resources and Environment (Ranking Member), 7 Rebuild Iowa (Chairperson), Rules and Administration 8 (Ranking Member), and Ways and Means standing 9 committees; the Economic Development and Justice 10 System (Vice Chairperson) appropriations subcommittees; 11 the Administrative Rules Review Committee; the 12 State Government Efficiency Review Committee; the 13 Administration, Service, and Studies Committees of the 14 Legislative Council; and the Business Disaster Case 15 Management Task Force, Climate Change Advisory Council, 16 Criminal and Juvenile Justice Planning Advisory 17 Council, Criminal Justice Information System Advisory 18 Committee, Flood Mitigation Board, Governmental Public 19 Health Advisory Council, Midwestern Higher Education 20 Compact, Public Safety Advisory Board, Rebuild Iowa 21 Coordinating Council, Task Force on the Prevention of 22 Sexual Abuse of Children, and Watershed Improvement 23 Review Board; and served on numerous interim study 24 committees; and 25 WHEREAS, Senator Hogg has further demonstrated his 26 commitment to civic engagement through his involvement 27 with Christ Episcopal Church, the Indian Creek Nature 28 Center, and the Linn County Bar Association, and his 29 recent participation in the United Nations Framework 30 -2- LSB 6258SV (5) 89 je/rn 2/ 3
