S.F. 2336 Section 1. Section 321.37, subsection 2, Code 2022, is 1 amended to read as follows: 2 2. a. Registration plates issued for a motor vehicle 3 which is model year 1948 or older, and reconstructed or 4 specially constructed vehicles built to resemble a model year 5 1948 vehicle or older, Notwithstanding subsection 1, any of 6 the following motor vehicles, other than a truck registered 7 for more than five tons, autocycle, motorcycle, or truck 8 tractor, may display one registration plate on the rear of the 9 vehicle if the other registration plate issued to the vehicle 10 is carried in the vehicle at all times when the vehicle is 11 operated on a public highway . : 12 (1) A vintage motor vehicle. 13 (2) A reconstructed or specially constructed vehicle built 14 to resemble a vintage motor vehicle. 15 (3) A limited-production motor vehicle. 16 b. As used in this subsection: 17 (1) “Limited-production motor vehicle” means a motor vehicle 18 with a specific make, model, and trim level, if the trim level 19 has a different engine than the base model, of which ten 20 thousand or fewer vehicles of that make, model, and trim level 21 were manufactured in the year the motor vehicle was produced, 22 as determined by the department. 23 (2) “Vintage motor vehicle” means a motor vehicle which is 24 model year 1979 or older. 25 EXPLANATION 26 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 27 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 28 Under current law, registration plates issued for a motor 29 vehicle other than an autocycle, motorcycle, motorized bicycle, 30 or truck tractor must be attached to the motor vehicle, one 31 in the front and the other in the rear. However, a motor 32 vehicle which is model year 1948 or older, or a reconstructed 33 or specially constructed vehicle built to resemble a model 34 year 1948 or older vehicle, other than a truck registered for 35 -1- LSB 6204SV (1) 89 th/ns 1/ 2
S.F. 2336 more than five tons, autocycle, motorcycle, or truck tractor 1 (autocycles, motorcycles, and truck tractors are all issued 2 only one registration plate), may display one registration 3 plate on the rear of the vehicle if the other registration 4 plate is carried in the vehicle when the vehicle is operated on 5 a public highway. 6 This bill authorizes a vintage motor vehicle, a 7 reconstructed or specially constructed vehicle built to 8 resemble a vintage motor vehicle, and a limited-production 9 motor vehicle to display one registration plate on the rear of 10 the vehicle if the other registration plate is carried in the 11 vehicle when the vehicle is operated on a public highway. 12 The bill defines “vintage motor vehicle” as a motor vehicle 13 which is model year 1979 or older and “limited-production motor 14 vehicle” as a motor vehicle with a specific make, model, and 15 trim level, if the trim level has a different engine than 16 the base model, of which 10,000 or fewer vehicles of that 17 make, model, and trim level were manufactured in the year the 18 motor vehicle was produced, as determined by the department of 19 transportation.
