S.F. 2334 Section 1. Section 483A.7, Code 2022, is amended by adding 1 the following new subsection: 2 NEW SUBSECTION . 5. The commission shall authorize a person 3 hunting turkey with a license that authorizes the use of a 4 shotgun to use a caliber .410 shotgun or a 28-gauge shotgun. 5 A caliber .410 shotgun or a 28-gauge shotgun used for hunting 6 turkey shall only shoot shot not smaller than shot size number 7 10. 8 EXPLANATION 9 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 10 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 11 This bill relates to shotguns that may be used to hunt 12 turkey. Under current rules, a person may hunt turkey during 13 certain times of the year using a shotgun that is not smaller 14 than 20-gauge. The bill requires the commission to authorize 15 a person hunting turkey with a license that authorizes the 16 use of a shotgun to use a caliber .410 shotgun or a 28-gauge 17 shotgun, both of which are smaller than 20-gauge.
