S.F. 140 Section 1. Section 85.27, subsection 1, Code 2021, is 1 amended to read as follows: 2 1. The employer, for all injuries compensable under this 3 chapter or chapter 85A , shall furnish reasonable surgical, 4 medical, dental, osteopathic, chiropractic, podiatric, physical 5 rehabilitation, nursing, ambulance, and hospital services 6 and supplies therefor and shall allow reasonably necessary 7 transportation expenses incurred for such services. The 8 employer shall also furnish reasonable and necessary crutches, 9 artificial members , and appliances but shall not be required 10 to furnish more than one set of permanent prosthetic devices . 11 A person shall be entitled to replacement of a prosthetic 12 device, including subsequent replacements, by the employer if 13 the prosthetic device is needed as a result of a compensable 14 injury, and the replacement of the prosthetic device would 15 otherwise be considered reasonable medical care under this 16 chapter. 17 EXPLANATION 18 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 19 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 20 This bill provides that a person is entitled to replacement 21 of a prosthetic device, including subsequent replacements, 22 by an employer under the workers’ compensation program if 23 the prosthetic device is needed as a result of a compensable 24 injury, and the replacement of the prosthetic device would 25 otherwise be considered reasonable medical care.
