Section
1.
Section
331.907,
subsection
1,
Code
2021,
is
1
amended
to
read
as
follows:

1.
The
annual
compensation
of
the
auditor,
treasurer,
3
recorder,
sheriff,
county
attorney,
and
supervisors
shall
4
be
determined
as
provided
in
this
section
.
The
county
5
compensation
board
annually
shall
review
the
compensation
6
paid
to
comparable
officers
in
other
counties
of
this
state,
7
other
states,
private
enterprise,
and
the
federal
government
,
8
and
shall
consider
the
current
economic
health
of
the
county,
9
state,
and
country
.
In
setting
the
salary
of
the
county
10
sheriff,
the
county
compensation
board
shall
consider
setting
11
the
sheriff’s
salary
so
that
it
is
comparable
to
salaries
12
paid
to
professional
law
enforcement
administrators
and
13
command
officers
of
the
state
patrol,
the
division
of
criminal
14
investigation
of
the
department
of
public
safety,
and
city
15
police
agencies
in
this
state.
The
county
compensation
16
board
shall
prepare
a
compensation
schedule
for
the
elective
17
county
officers
for
the
succeeding
fiscal
year.
The
county
18
compensation
board
shall
provide
documentation
to
the
board
of
19
supervisors
that
demonstrates
how
the
county
compensation
board
20
determined
the
recommended
compensation
schedule,
including
by
21
providing
the
applicable
compensation
information
for
counties
22
in
this
state
with
a
similar
population
and
all
the
adjacent
23
counties
in
this
state.
A
recommended
compensation
schedule
24
requires
a
majority
vote
of
the
membership
of
the
county
25
compensation
board.

The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with

the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

This
bill
relates
to
the
duties
of
a
county
compensation
30
board
when
recommending
a
compensation
schedule.
Under
current
31
law,
a
county
compensation
board
recommends
a
compensation
32
schedule
for
elective
county
officers
for
the
succeeding
33
fiscal
year
and
submits
the
recommended
compensation
schedule
34
to
the
county
board
of
supervisors
for
approval.
When

determining
the
recommended
compensation
schedule,
current

law
requires
the
county
compensation
board
to
review
the

compensation
paid
to
comparable
officers
in
other
counties

this

other

of
the
county
sheriff’s

salary,
other
law
enforcement
agencies.
The
bill
requires
the

compensation
board
to
also
consider
the

bill
also
requires
the
county
compensation
board

to

the
