Section 321.194, subsection 2, paragraph a, 1 subparagraph (1), unnumbered paragraph 1, Code 2021, is amended 2 to read as follows: 3 If the licensee attends a public school, the licensee may 4 operate a motor vehicle during the hours of 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 5 11:00 p.m. as follows: 6 Sec. 2. Section 321.194, subsection 2, paragraph a, 7 subparagraph (2), unnumbered paragraph 1, Code 2021, is amended 8 to read as follows: 9 If the licensee attends an accredited nonpublic school, the 10 licensee may operate a motor vehicle during the hours of 5:00 11 a.m. to 10:00 11:00 p.m. as follows: 12 EXPLANATION 13 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 14 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 15 Under current law, a person holding a special minor’s 16 driver’s license is allowed to operate a motor vehicle during 17 the hours of 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. between the licensee’s 18 residence, schools of enrollment, bus stops, and sites, 19 facilities, or schools designated by the licensee’s district 20 or school of enrollment for the accommodation of the school’s 21 extracurricular activities, with certain limitations. 22 This bill expands the allowable hours of operation to 11:00 23 p.m. 24 A violation of Code section 321.194 is punishable by a 25 scheduled fine of $70. 26 -1- LSB 2279YC (1) 89 th/ns 1/ 1
