Resolution
urging
the
members
of
the
General

Assembly
to
request
that
a
special
session
be

held
to
commemorate
the
one
hundred
seventy-fifth

anniversary
of
Iowa
attaining
statehood.

WHEREAS,
the
Iowa
House
of
Representatives
wishes
5
to
honor
and
pay
respect
to
the
history
of
the
State
6
of
Iowa;
and
7
WHEREAS,
December
28,
2021,
is
the
one
hundred
8
seventy-fifth
anniversary
of
the
date
President
James
9
Knox
Polk
signed
into
law
the
bill
granting
statehood
10
to
Iowa;
and
11
WHEREAS,
it
is
the
desire
of
the
House
of
12
Representatives
to
recognize
and
celebrate
this
13
milestone
in
the
history
of
the
State
of
Iowa
by
14
holding
a
special
session
of
the
General
Assembly;
and
15
WHEREAS,
the
Old
Capitol
Building
in
the
city
of
16
Iowa
City
is
an
appropriate
venue
to
remind
members
17
of
our
shared
history
and
the
history
of
the
General
18
Assembly;
NOW
THEREFORE,

BE
IT
RESOLVED
BY
THE
HOUSE
OF
REPRESENTATIVES,
That

the
House
of
Representatives
urges
each
member
of
the
21
General
Assembly
to
submit
a
written
request
to
the
22
presiding
officer
of
the
appropriate
chamber
that
a

at
the

Old
Capitol
Building
in
Iowa
City
for
the
purpose
of

commemorating
the
one
hundred
seventy-fifth

BE
IT
FURTHER
RESOLVED,
That
the
House
of
5
Representatives
requests
that
no
member
of
the
General
6
Assembly
should
receive
or
accept
a
salary
or
per
diem
7
for
attendance
at
a
special
session
called
for
the
8
purposes
enumerated
in
this
resolution.
