House Resolution 119 - Introduced HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 119 BY JACOBSEN A Resolution honoring Captain Nicholas Critelli, Jr., 1 Esq., for his years of service in the United States 2 Coast Guard Auxiliary, Iowa Flotilla. 3 WHEREAS, Captain Nicholas Critelli, Jr., Esq., is a 4 Des Moines native who obtained a law degree from Drake 5 University Law School and has practiced law for more 6 than four decades in Iowa and as an English barrister; 7 and 8 WHEREAS, Captain Critelli is a past president of 9 the American Academy of Alternate Dispute Resolution 10 Attorneys, the Iowa State Bar Association, and the Iowa 11 Academy of Trial Lawyers; currently serves as chair of 12 the Ethics and Practice Guidelines Committee of the 13 Iowa State Bar Association; and is a fellow of the 14 American College of Trial Lawyers, the International 15 Society of Barristers, and the American Board of Trial 16 Advocates; and 17 WHEREAS, Captain Critelli is listed as one of the 18 “Best Lawyers in America” by Best Lawyers in America 19 for Business and Commercial Litigation, rated as a 20 “Super Lawyer” by Super Lawyers in Litigation, and 21 is “AV” rated by Martindale Hubbell and Chambers 22 International Law List; and 23 WHEREAS, after visiting an English courtroom in 24 1986, Captain Critelli decided to pursue the five-year 25 process of becoming a barrister including reattending 26 law school, undergoing advocate training, and taking 27 courses from the Inns of Court, City University of 28 -1- LSB 6276YH (5) 89 cm/rn 1/ 2
H.R. 119 London and their tests, and took the bar examination 1 before being called to the Bar; and 2 WHEREAS, after September 11, 2001, Captain Critelli 3 felt the need to give something back to society and 4 volunteered with the Civil Air Patrol; and 5 WHEREAS, in 2008 at the age of 65, Captain Critelli 6 joined the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, a 7 volunteer force that was organized in 1939; and 8 WHEREAS, in 2010, Captain Critelli was awarded the 9 rank of captain; and 10 WHEREAS, in 2018, Captain Critelli was the recipient 11 of the Ten Years of Service Award from the United 12 States Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla 4; and 13 WHEREAS, both in his public career and private life, 14 Captain Critelli has been a tireless advocate regarding 15 international litigation, domestic and international 16 arbitration and mediation, intellectual property, and 17 computer-assisted litigation; NOW THEREFORE, 18 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, That 19 the House of Representatives thanks Captain Nicholas 20 Critelli, Jr., Esq., for his service of over a decade 21 in the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, and decades 22 of service to the legal profession, and wishes him and 23 his family the best in the years to come. 24 -2- LSB 6276YH (5) 89 cm/rn 2/ 2
