NEW SECTION . 362.10A Social workers in municipal 6 police departments. 7 A municipal police department shall, by July 1, 2023, employ 8 at least one social worker licensed pursuant to chapter 154C 9 for every fifteen police officers employed by the municipal 10 police department. 11 EXPLANATION 12 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 13 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 14 This bill relates to the employment of social workers by 15 county sheriffs and municipal police departments. 16 The bill provides that a county sheriff shall employ at 17 least one licensed social worker for every 15 deputy sheriffs 18 employed by the county sheriff. 19 The bill provides that a municipal police department shall 20 employ at least one licensed social worker for every 15 police 21 officers employed by the municipal police department. 22 The requirements for employing licensed social workers must 23 be complied with by July 1, 2023. 24 -1- LSB 2660YH (2) 89 as/rh 1/ 1
