1.
Section
149.5,
Code
2021,
is
amended
to
read
as
1
follows:

149.5
Amputations
——
anesthesia
——
prescription
drugs
——
3
immunizations
and
vaccines
.

1.
A
license
to
practice
podiatry
shall
not
authorize
the
5
licensee
to
amputate
the
human
foot.
6
2.
A
licensed
podiatric
physician
may
do
all
of
the
7
following:
8
a.
Administer
local
anesthesia.
9
b.
Administer
conscious
sedation
in
a
hospital
or
an
10
ambulatory
surgical
center.
11
c.
Prescribe
and
administer
drugs
for
the
treatment
of
human
12
foot
ailments
as
provided
in
section
149.1
.
13
d.
Order,
prescribe,
or
administer
an
immunization
or
14
vaccine
pursuant
to
protocols
developed
by
the
board
in
15
consultation
with
the
department
of
public
health.
A
licensed
16
podiatric
physician
may
order,
prescribe,
or
administer
17
epinephrine
when
medically
indicated
for
an
anaphylactic
18
adverse
reaction
to
the
administered
immunization
or
vaccine.

Sec.
2.
EFFECTIVE
DATE.
This
Act,
being
deemed
of
immediate
20
importance,
takes
effect
upon
enactment.

EXPLANATION
22
The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with
23
the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

This
bill
provides
that
a
podiatric
physician
may
order,
25
prescribe,
or
administer
an
immunization
or
vaccine
pursuant
to
26
protocols
developed
by
the
board
of
podiatry
in
consultation
27
with
the
department
of
public
health.
Additionally,
the
bill
28
authorizes
a
licensed
podiatric
physician
to
order,
prescribe,
29
or
administer
epinephrine
when
medically
indicated
for
an
30
anaphylactic
adverse
reaction
to
the
administered
immunization
31
or
vaccine.
The
bill
takes
effect
upon
enactment.
