Hysterectomy
——
consent.
1
1.
A
woman
who
is
eighteen
years
of
age
or
older
or
who
has
2
attained
majority
as
provided
in
section
599.1
shall
have
legal
3
capacity
to
provide
informed
consent
to
a
hysterectomy.

2.
A
person
licensed
or
certified
to
practice
a
profession
5
shall
not
condition
the
provision
of
medical
care
or
services
6
to
a
woman
for
a
hysterectomy
on
the
obtaining
of
consent
to
7
the
hysterectomy
from
any
other
person
including
the
woman’s
8
spouse.

EXPLANATION
10
The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with
11
the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

This
bill
relates
to
consent
to
a
hysterectomy.
The
bill
13
provides
that
a
woman
who
is
18
years
of
age
or
older
or
who
14
has
attained
majority
by
marriage
shall
have
legal
capacity
to
15
provide
informed
consent
to
a
hysterectomy.
Additionally,
a
16
health
care
professional
shall
not
condition
the
provision
of
17
medical
care
or
services
to
a
woman
for
a
hysterectomy
on
the
18
obtaining
of
consent
to
the
hysterectomy
from
any
other
person
19
including
the
woman’s
spouse.
