as

rules

school
districts

adopt

suicide
prevention

intervention,

postvention

the
identification
of
adverse
childhood
experiences
and

strategies
to
mitigate
toxic
stress
response.
The
protocols
6
shall
be
based
on
nationally
recognized
best
practices
and
7
shall
specifically
address
the
needs
of
students
who
are
at
8
higher
risk
for
suicide
than
the
general
student
population
.
9
The
rules
shall
require
that
school
districts
review
and,
if
10
necessary,
update
the
protocols
at
least
every
five
years.

2.
Section
279.70,
subsection
2,
Code
2021,
is
amended
12
to
read
as
follows:

2.
By
July
1,
2019
2022
,
the
board
of
directors
of
a
school
14
district
shall
require
annual,
evidence-based
training
at
15
least
one
hour
in
length
on
suicide
prevention
,
intervention,
16
and
postvention
for
all
school
personnel
who
hold
a
license,
17
certificate,
authorization,
or
statement
of
recognition
issued
18
by
the
board
of
educational
examiners
and
who
have
regular
19
contact
with
students
in
kindergarten
through
grade
twelve.

The
content
of
the
training
shall
be
based
on
nationally
21
recognized
best
practices.

The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with

the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

This
bill
provides
that
protocols
for
suicide
prevention
26
and
postvention
and
the
identification
of
adverse
childhood
27
experiences
and
strategies
to
mitigate
toxic
stress
response
28
adopted
by
school
districts
shall
specifically
address
the
29
needs
of
students
who
are
at
higher
risk
for
suicide
than
30
the
general
student
population.
The
bill
provides
that
such
31
protocols
must
also
include
suicide
intervention.
32
The
bill
requires
that
school
districts
review
and,
if
33
necessary,
update
the
protocols
at
least
every
five
years.
