H.F. 550 Section 1. Section 483A.8, subsection 6, Code 2021, is 1 amended to read as follows: 2 6. The commission shall provide by rule for the annual 3 issuance to a nonresident of a nonresident antlerless deer 4 hunting license that is valid for use only during the period 5 beginning on December 24 and ending at sunset on January 2 of 6 the following year and costs an amount established by rules 7 adopted pursuant to section 483A.1 . A nonresident hunting deer 8 with a license issued under this subsection shall be otherwise 9 qualified to hunt deer in this state and shall purchase a 10 nonresident annual hunting license that includes the wildlife 11 habitat fee, and pay the one dollar fee for the purpose of 12 deer herd population management as provided in subsection 13 3 . In addition to other methods of take that the commission 14 authorizes for the season, the commission shall authorize a 15 nonresident hunting deer with a license issued under this 16 subsection to use a bow, muzzleloader, handgun, shotgun, or 17 rifle firing straight wall ammunition. Pursuant to this 18 subsection , the commission shall make available for issuance 19 only the remaining nonresident antlerless deer hunting licenses 20 allocated under subsection 3 that have not yet been issued for 21 the current year’s nonresident antlerless deer hunting seasons. 22 EXPLANATION 23 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 24 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 25 This bill relates to methods of take allowed during the 26 nonresident antlerless deer holiday season. 27 Current law creates a nonresident antlerless deer hunting 28 season that begins on December 24 and ends on January 2. The 29 natural resource commission currently allows a nonresident 30 hunting with a license valid for the nonresident antlerless 31 deer holiday season to hunt using a bow, muzzleloader, or 32 handgun. The bill requires the commission to authorize 33 a nonresident hunting deer with a license valid for the 34 nonresident antlerless deer holiday season to hunt with a bow, 35 -1- LSB 2253HV (1) 89 js/rn 1/ 2
