H.F. 354 Section 1. Section 607A.8, subsection 1, Code 2021, is 1 amended to read as follows: 2 1. A grand juror and a petit juror in all courts shall 3 receive thirty dollars per day the hourly rate that public 4 defenders earn on all cases other class “A” and “B” felonies 5 pursuant to section 815.7, subsection 5, as compensation for 6 each day’s service or attendance, including attendance required 7 for the purpose of being considered for service. The supreme 8 court may adopt rules that allow additional compensation for 9 jurors whose attendance and service exceeds seven days. 10 Sec. 2. Section 622.69, subsection 1, Code 2021, is amended 11 to read as follows: 12 1. Witnesses shall receive ten dollars per day the hourly 13 rate that public defenders earn on all cases other class “A” 14 and “B” felonies pursuant to section 815.7, subsection 5, 15 for each full day’s attendance , and five dollars for each 16 attendance less than a full day, and mileage expenses pursuant 17 to section 602.1509 for each mile actually traveled. 18 EXPLANATION 19 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 20 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 21 This bill increases juror and witness compensation. 22 Under the bill, jurors and witnesses earn per day the hourly 23 rate that public defenders earn on all cases other than class 24 “A” felonies and class “B” felonies, as provided for in Code 25 section 815.7(5), which is $63.
