1.
Section
216.2,
Code
2021,
is
amended
by
adding
1
the
following
new
subsection:

“Creed”
means
a
confession
or
articles

of
faith,
formal
declaration
of
religious
beliefs,
a
formula
4
or
confession
of
religious
faith,
or
a
system
of
religious
5
belief,
and
includes
any
sincerely
held
lived
beliefs
related
6
to
personal
health
and
wellness,
vaccinations,
immunotherapies,
7
and
any
medical
device
that
could
impair
a
person’s
breathing
8
or
obscure
the
person’s
face.

The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with

the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

This
bill
defines
“creed”
in
the
Iowa
civil
rights
Act
13
of
1965
(Code
chapter
216)
to
mean
a
confession
or
articles
14
of
faith,
formal
declaration
of
religious
beliefs,
a
formula
15
or
confession
of
religious
faith,
or
a
system
of
religious
16
belief,
and
includes
any
sincerely
held
lived
beliefs
related
17
to
personal
health
and
wellness,
vaccinations,
immunotherapies,
18
and
any
medical
device
that
could
impair
a
person’s
breathing
19
or
obscure
the
person’s
face.
Under
current
law,
the
term
20
“creed”
is
not
defined.
The
Iowa
civil
rights
Act
of
1965
21
prohibits
discrimination
based
on
a
person’s
creed
in
the
22
areas
of
employment,
wages,
accommodations,
services,
housing,
23
education,
and
lending.
