H.F. 2422 Section 1. Section 239B.7, Code 2022, is amended by adding 1 the following new subsection: 2 NEW SUBSECTION . 9. Marriage income disregard. In order 3 to encourage marriage among single-parent households and 4 assist those households when the child’s parent living in the 5 household marries, the income of an individual whose needs were 6 not previously included in the household and who marries the 7 child’s parent living in the household shall be disregarded for 8 a period of twenty-four consecutive months beginning the month 9 following the date of the marriage certificate. 10 EXPLANATION 11 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 12 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 13 This bill provides that in determining a family’s income and 14 resources for purposes of the family’s initial and continuing 15 eligibility for assistance and for determining grant amounts 16 under the family investment program, in order to encourage 17 marriage among single-parent households and assist those 18 households when the child’s parent living in the household 19 marries, the income of an individual whose needs were not 20 previously included in the household and who marries the 21 child’s parent living in the household shall be disregarded for 22 a period of 24 consecutive months beginning the month following 23 the date of the marriage certificate. 24 -1- LSB 6103HH (2) 89 pf/rh 1/ 1
