H.F. 2420 Section 1. Section 233.1, subsection 2, paragraph c, Code 1 2022, is amended to read as follows: 2 c. “Newborn infant” means a child who is, or who appears to 3 be, thirty sixty days of age or younger. 4 EXPLANATION 5 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 6 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 7 This bill redefines “newborn infant” for the purposes of 8 Code chapter 233 (newborn infant custody release procedures 9 under the newborn safe haven Act) to provide that a newborn 10 infant is a child who is, or who appears to be, 60 days of age 11 or younger rather than the current 30 days of age or younger, 12 thereby allowing for the voluntary release of custody of such 13 newborn infant under the provisions of the newborn safe haven 14 Act. 15 -1- LSB 6124HV (1) 89 pf/rh 1/ 1
