H.F. 2417 Section 1. Section 256.46, Code 2022, is amended by adding 1 the following new subsection: 2 NEW SUBSECTION . 2A. The rules shall provide that a child 3 who transfers to a school and who does not meet a circumstance 4 described in subsection 1 shall be ineligible to participate 5 in varsity interscholastic athletic contests and competitions 6 during the child’s first ninety calendar days of enrollment in 7 the school. 8 Sec. 2. Section 282.18, subsection 11, paragraph a, 9 unnumbered paragraph 1, Code 2022, is amended to read as 10 follows: 11 A pupil who participates in open enrollment for purposes of 12 attending a grade in grades nine through twelve in a school 13 district other than the district of residence is ineligible to 14 participate in varsity interscholastic athletic contests and 15 athletic competitions during the pupil’s first ninety school 16 calendar days of enrollment in the district. However, a pupil 17 may participate immediately in a varsity interscholastic sport 18 under any of the following circumstances: 19 EXPLANATION 20 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 21 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 22 This bill changes the period of time a student must wait 23 to participate in varsity interscholastic athletic contests 24 and competitions from 90 school days to 90 calendar days after 25 the student open enrolls in, or transfers to, a new school 26 district. 27 -1- LSB 6052HV (2) 89 dg/jh 1/ 1
