Section
1.
Section
256.11,
subsection
4,
Code
2021,
is
1
amended
to
read
as
follows:

4.
The
following
shall
be
taught
in
grades
seven
and
3
eight:
English-language
arts;
social
studies;
mathematics;
4
science;
health;
age-appropriate
and
research-based
human
5
growth
and
development;
career
exploration
and
development;
6
physical
education;
music;
and
visual
art.
Computer
science
7
instruction
incorporating
the
standards
established
under
8
section
256.7,
subsection
26
,
paragraph
“a”
,
subparagraph
(4),
9
shall
be
offered
in
at
least
one
grade
level
commencing
with
10
the
school
year
beginning
July
1,
2023.
Career
exploration
11
and
development
shall
be
designed
so
that
students
are
12
appropriately
prepared
to
create
an
individual
career
13
and
academic
plan
pursuant
to
section
279.61
,
incorporate
14
foundational
career
and
technical
education
concepts
aligned
15
with
the
six
career
and
technical
education
service
areas
16
as
defined
in
subsection
5
,
paragraph
“h”
,
and
incorporate
17
relevant
twenty-first
century
skills.
The
health
curriculum
18
shall
include
age-appropriate
and
research-based
information
19
regarding
the
National
Childhood
Vaccine
Injury
Act
of
1986,
20
42
U.S.C.
§300aa-1
to
300aa-34,
the
occurrence
of
medical
21
errors,
the
practices
of
medical
informed
consent,
the
rights
22
and
responsibilities
of
patients
under
the
law,
and
the
23
characteristics
of
sexually
transmitted
diseases,
including
HPV
24
and
the
availability
of
a
vaccine
to
prevent
HPV,
and
acquired
25
immune
deficiency
syndrome.
The
state
board
as
part
of
26
accreditation
standards
shall
adopt
curriculum
definitions
for
27
implementing
the
program
in
grades
seven
and
eight.
However,
28
this
subsection
shall
not
apply
to
the
teaching
of
career
29
exploration
and
development
in
nonpublic
schools.
For
purposes
30
of
this
section
,
“age-appropriate”
,
“HPV”
,
and
“research-based”
31
mean
the
same
as
defined
in
section
279.50
.

Pharmaceutical
product

advertisements
prohibited.

1.
For
purposes
of
this
section:

a.
“Advertisement”
means
an
attempt
by
dissemination,
29
solicitation,
or
circulation
of
any
written,
electronic,
or
30
printed
communication
to
create
an
interest
in
or
induce
31
directly
or
indirectly
a
student
to
purchase
or
acquire
a
32
pharmaceutical
product.
33
b.
“Pharmaceutical
product”
means
any
product
that
under
34
federal
or
state
law
shall
not
be
dispensed
except
pursuant
to
35

a
prescription
order
written
by
a
licensed
medical
professional
1
and
dispensed
by
a
pharmacy
as
defined
in
section
155A.3.

The
board
of
directors
of
each
school
district
and
the

authorities
in
charge
of
each
accredited
nonpublic
school
4
shall
prohibit
within
a
school
attendance
center
and
on
school
5
grounds
any
advertisement
for
a
pharmaceutical
product.

EXPLANATION

The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with
8
the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

This
bill
requires
school
districts
and
accredited
nonpublic
10
schools
to
prohibit
pharmaceutical
product
advertisements
11
within
school
attendance
centers
and
on
school
grounds,
12
requires
that
such
districts
and
schools
provide
to
students
in
13
grades
7
and
8
a
health
curriculum
and
to
students
in
grades
9
14
through
12
health
resources
that
include
the
federal
National
15
Childhood
Vaccine
Injury
Act
of
1986,
the
occurrence
of
medical
16
errors,
the
practices
of
medical
informed
consent,
and
the
17
rights
and
responsibilities
of
patients
under
the
law.

The
bill
eliminates
references
and
instructional
19
requirements
relating
to
the
provision
of
human
growth
and
20
development
materials
and
instruction
to
students
regarding
the
21
human
papillomavirus
and
vaccine.
