H.F. 2365 Section 1. Section 483A.8, Code 2022, is amended by adding 1 the following new subsection: 2 NEW SUBSECTION . 9. A person who is issued a bow season deer 3 hunting license and who is unsuccessful in taking a deer under 4 such license and tag during a bow season established by the 5 commission by rule may use the bow season deer hunting license 6 and tag during the late muzzleloader season or the January 7 antlerless deer hunting season established by the commission by 8 rule that follows the bow season for which the license and tag 9 were valid. A person hunting with a bow season deer hunting 10 license and unfilled tag pursuant to this subsection may use a 11 crossbow during the January antlerless deer hunting season. 12 EXPLANATION 13 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 14 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 15 Pursuant to current rules, the natural resource commission 16 (NRC) may establish an antlerless deer only deer hunting season 17 from January 11 through the second Sunday after that date 18 if there are at least 100 unsold antlerless deer only deer 19 hunting licenses in the county on the third Monday in December 20 preceding the season. 21 This bill allows a person who was unsuccessful in taking 22 a deer during a bow season established by NRC by rule while 23 using a bow season deer hunting license to use the license and 24 unfilled tag during the late muzzleloader season or the January 25 antlerless deer hunting season that follows the bow season 26 for which the license and tag were valid.
