H.F. 2231 Section 1. Section 708.2, Code 2022, is amended by adding 1 the following new subsection: 2 NEW SUBSECTION . 5A. A person who commits an assault, as 3 defined in section 708.1, against another person who the person 4 knows or reasonably should know is a pregnant person, is guilty 5 of a class “D” felony. 6 EXPLANATION 7 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 8 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 9 This bill relates to an assault of a pregnant person, and 10 provides penalties. 11 The bill provides that a person who commits an assault, as 12 defined in Code section 708.1, against another person who the 13 person knows or reasonably should know is a pregnant person, is 14 guilty of a class “D” felony.
