NEW
SECTION
.
279.76
Dyslexia
specialists.
1
Subject
to
an
appropriation
by
the
general
assembly
for
such
2
purpose,
the
board
of
directors
of
a
school
district
may
engage
3
an
independent
contractor
to
serve
as
a
dyslexia
specialist.

The
dyslexia
specialist
shall
provide
technical
guidance
and
5
assistance,
including
professional
development,
strategies,
and
6
materials
to
the
school
district
relating
to
identification
of
7
and
instruction
for
students
with
characteristics
of
dyslexia.

The
specialist
shall
be
highly
trained
in
dyslexia
and
have
9
a
minimum
of
three
years
of
field
experience
in
screening,
10
identifying,
and
treating
dyslexia
and
related
disorders.

EXPLANATION

The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with
13
the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

This
bill
authorizes
the
boards
of
directors
of
school
15
districts
to
engage
independent
contractors
to
serve
as
16
dyslexia
specialists,
subject
to
an
appropriation
by
the
17
general
assembly
for
such
purpose.
Dyslexia
specialists
18
are
required
to
provide
technical
guidance
and
assistance,
19
including
professional
development,
strategies,
and
materials
20
to
the
school
district
relating
to
the
identification
of
and
21
instruction
for
students
with
characteristics
of
dyslexia.
