H.F. 2158 Section 1. Section 272.31, Code 2022, is amended by adding 1 the following new subsection: 2 NEW SUBSECTION . 4A. The board shall, upon application, 3 issue a student teacher substitute authorization that allows a 4 student who is enrolled in a practitioner preparation program 5 and who is participating in the student teaching experience 6 required by section 256.16, subsection 1, paragraph “d” , to 7 substitute in the classroom in which the student teaching 8 experience is taking place for the student’s cooperating 9 teacher who is absent. The board shall not charge a fee for the 10 authorization issued under this subsection. 11 EXPLANATION 12 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 13 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 14 This bill relates to substitute teacher authorizations for 15 student teachers. 16 The bill requires the board of educational examiners (BOEE) 17 to issue a student teacher substitute authorization that allows 18 a student who is enrolled in a practitioner preparation program 19 and who is participating in the student teaching experience 20 to substitute in the classroom in which the student teaching 21 experience is taking place for the student’s cooperating 22 teacher who is absent.
