H.F. 2055 Section 1. Section 262.9, subsection 2, Code 2022, is 1 amended to read as follows: 2 2. Elect a president of each of the institutions of higher 3 learning; a superintendent of each of the other institutions; 4 a treasurer and a secretarial officer for each institution 5 annually; professors, instructors, officers, and employees; and 6 fix their compensation , including employees who participate 7 in an intercollegiate sport for the institution . Sections 8 279.12 through 279.19 and section 279.27 apply to employees of 9 the Iowa braille and sight saving school and the Iowa school 10 for the deaf, who are licensed pursuant to chapter 272 . In 11 following those sections in chapter 279 , the references to 12 boards of directors of school districts shall be interpreted 13 to apply to the board of regents. For purposes of this 14 subsection, an employee of an institution of the state board 15 of regents includes an individual who is enrolled at the 16 institution, and participates in an intercollegiate sport for 17 the institution. 18 EXPLANATION 19 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 20 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 21 This bill provides that a student athlete at an institution 22 under the control of the state board of regents is considered 23 an employee of an institution of the state board of regents. 24 The bill also provides that the state board of regents fix the 25 compensation for student athletes.
