H.F. 2006 Section 1. Section 53.8, subsection 1, paragraph a, 1 unnumbered paragraph 1, Code 2022, is amended to read as 2 follows: 3 Upon receipt of an application for an absentee ballot 4 and immediately after the absentee ballots are printed, but 5 not more earlier than twenty three business days before the 6 twentieth day before the election, the commissioner shall mail 7 an absentee ballot to the applicant within twenty-four hours, 8 except as otherwise provided in subsection 3 . The absentee 9 ballot shall be sent to the registered voter by one of the 10 following methods: 11 EXPLANATION 12 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 13 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 14 This bill relates to the mailing of absentee ballots. The 15 bill allows a county commissioner of elections to begin mailing 16 absentee ballots to voters who have requested them beginning 17 the third business day before the twentieth day before the 18 election.
