REQUIREMENTS.
Effective
July
1,
2019,
the
department
of
human
2
services
shall
require
all
of
the
following
under
both
Medicaid
3
fee-for-service
and
Medicaid
managed
care:

1.
That
a
response
to
a
request
for
prior
authorization
for
5
medication-assisted
treatment
shall
be
provided
within
24
hours
6
of
submission
of
the
request
for
prior
authorization.

2.
That
reimbursement
shall
be
provided
retroactively
for
8
up
to
72
hours
from
the
time
the
prior
authorization
request
9
was
submitted
or
from
the
date
the
prescription
was
written
for
10
medication-assisted
treatment,
whichever
is
earlier.

The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with

the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

This
bill
relates
to
prior
authorization
for

medication-assisted
treatment
under
both
Medicaid

care.

The
bill
requires
that
effective
July
1,
2019,
the

department
of
human
services
shall
require
that
a
response
to

prior
authorization
for
medication-assisted
treatment
shall
be

provided
within
24
hours
of
the
submission
of
a
request
for

prior
authorization
and
that
reimbursement
shall
be
provided

retroactively
for
up
to

hours
from
the
time
the
prior

submitted
or
from
the
date
the
