S.F. _____ Section 1. MEDICAID MEDICATION-ASSISTED TREATMENT —— 1 REQUIREMENTS. Effective July 1, 2019, the department of human 2 services shall require all of the following under both Medicaid 3 fee-for-service and Medicaid managed care: 4 1. That a response to a request for prior authorization for 5 medication-assisted treatment shall be provided within 24 hours 6 of submission of the request for prior authorization. 7 2. That reimbursement shall be provided retroactively for 8 up to 72 hours from the time the prior authorization request 9 was submitted or from the date the prescription was written for 10 medication-assisted treatment, whichever is earlier. 11 EXPLANATION 12 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 13 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 14 This bill relates to prior authorization for 15 medication-assisted treatment under both Medicaid 16 fee-for-service and managed care. 17 The bill requires that effective July 1, 2019, the 18 department of human services shall require that a response to 19 prior authorization for medication-assisted treatment shall be 20 provided within 24 hours of the submission of a request for 21 prior authorization and that reimbursement shall be provided 22 retroactively for up to 72 hours from the time the prior 23 authorization request was submitted or from the date the 24 prescription was written for medication-assisted treatment, 25 whichever is earlier. 26 -1- LSB 2667XC (3) 88 pf/rh 1/ 1
