724.6,
Code
2019,
is
amended
to

as

724.6
Professional
permit
to
carry
weapons.

1.
a.
A
person
may
be
issued
a
permit
to
carry
weapons
when
4
the
person’s
employment
in
a
private
investigation
business
5
or
private
security
business
licensed
under
chapter
80A
,
or
a
6
person’s
employment
as
a
peace
officer,
correctional
officer
,
7
county
attorney,
assistant
county
attorney
,
security
guard,
8
bank
messenger
or
other
person
transporting
property
of
a
value
9
requiring
security,
or
in
police
work,
reasonably
justifies
10
that
person
going
armed.

b.
The
permit
shall
be
on
a
form
prescribed
and
published
by
12
the
commissioner
of
public
safety,
shall
identify
the
holder,
13
and
shall
state
the
nature
of
the
employment
requiring
the
14
holder
to
go
armed.
A
permit
so
issued,
other
than
to
a
peace
15
officer
,
county
attorney,
or
assistant
county
attorney
,
shall
16
authorize
the
person
to
whom
it
is
issued
to
go
armed
anywhere
17
in
the
state,
only
while
engaged
in
the
employment,
and
while
18
going
to
and
from
the
place
of
the
employment.

c.
A
permit
issued
to
a
certified
peace
officer
,
county
20
attorney,
or
assistant
county
attorney
shall
authorize
that
21
peace
officer
,
county
attorney,
or
assistant
county
attorney
to
22
go
armed
anywhere
in
the
state
at
all
times,
including
on
the
23
grounds
of
a
school.

d.
Permits
shall
expire
twelve
months
after
the
date
when
25
issued
except
that
permits
issued
to
peace
officers
,
and
26
correctional
officers
,
county
attorneys,
and
assistant
county
27
attorneys
are
valid
through
the
officer’s
person’s
period
of
28
employment
unless
otherwise
canceled.
When
the
employment
is
29
terminated,
the
holder
of
the
permit
shall
surrender
it
to
the
30
issuing
officer
for
cancellation.

Notwithstanding
subsection
1
,
fire
fighters,
as
defined
32
in
section
411.1,
subsection
10
,
airport
fire
fighters
included
33
under
section
97B.49B
,
and
emergency
medical
care
providers,
34
as
defined
in
section
147A.1
,
county
attorneys,
as
defined
in

and
assistant
county
attorneys,
as
defined

in
section
331.757,
shall
not,
as
a
condition
of
employment,

be
required
to
obtain
a
permit
under
this
section
.
However,
3
the
provisions
of
this
subsection
shall
not
apply
to
a
person
4
designated
as
an
arson
investigator
by
the
chief
fire
officer
5
of
a
political
subdivision.

inclusion

this
explanation
does

constitute
agreement

Under
Code
section
724.6,
a
person
may
be
issued
a
10
professional
permit
to
carry
weapons
when
the
person’s
11
employment
in
a
private
investigation
business
or
private
12
security
business,
or
a
person’s
employment
as
a
peace
officer,
13
correctional
officer,
security
guard,
bank
messenger
or
other
14
person
transporting
property
of
a
value
requiring
security,
or
15
in
police
work,
reasonably
justifies
that
person
going
armed.

This
bill
amends
Code
section
724.6
to
allow
county
attorneys
17
and
assistant
county
attorneys
to
obtain
a
professional
permit
18
to
carry
weapons.
A
professional
permit
to
carry
weapons
19
issued
to
a
county
attorney
or
assistant
county
attorney
20
authorizes
that
person
to
go
armed
anywhere
in
the
state
at
all
21
times,
including
on
the
grounds
of
a
school.
Permits
issued
22
to
county
attorneys
and
assistant
county
attorneys
are
valid
23
through
that
person’s
period
of
employment
unless
otherwise
24
cancelled.
The
bill
provides
that
county
attorneys
and
25
assistant
county
attorneys,
as
a
condition
of
their
employment,
26
shall
not
be
required
to
obtain
a
professional
permit
to
carry
27
weapons.
