Senate Resolution 12 - Introduced SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 12 BY SINCLAIR A Resolution designating March 2019 as Iowa Women’s 1 History Month. 2 WHEREAS, Iowa women of every race, class, and 3 ethnic background have made historic contributions 4 to the growth and strength of our State and nation 5 in countless recorded and unrecorded ways, including 6 through the struggle for women’s rights; and 7 WHEREAS, Iowa women have played and continue to 8 play critical economic, cultural, and social roles by 9 constituting a significant portion of the labor force 10 working inside and outside of the home; and 11 WHEREAS, Iowa women were particularly important in 12 the establishment of early charitable, philanthropic, 13 and cultural institutions in our State and nation; and 14 WHEREAS, Iowa women and men amended the Iowa 15 Constitution to read that “All men and women are, by 16 nature, free and equal, and have certain inalienable 17 rights”; and 18 WHEREAS, Iowa women have been leaders in business, 19 industry, and academia as well as the abolitionist 20 movement, the emancipation movement, the industrial 21 labor movement, the civil rights movement, the peace 22 movement, and the women’s suffrage movement, which 23 have created a more fair and just society for all 24 people; NOW THEREFORE, 25 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate 26 designates March 2019 as Iowa Women’s History Month and 27 invites the citizens of Iowa to continue to uncover, 28 -1- LSB 2784XS (1) 88 hb/rn 1/ 2
