King

during
ESPN’s
College
GameDay
visit
to
Ames
for

the
Iowa
vs.
Iowa
State
football
game
reading
“Busch

Light
Supply
Needs
Replenished”
and
listing
his
Venmo
7
account;
and
8
WHEREAS,
Mr.
King
holding
his
sign
appeared
9
on-screen
during
the
filming
of
the
game,
resulting
10
in
hundreds
of
dollars
being
deposited
in
his
Venmo
11
account;
and
12
WHEREAS,
Mr.
King
informed
his
family
that
he
13
would
donate
the
money
to
the
Stead
Family
Children’s
14
Hospital
in
Iowa
City;
and
15
WHEREAS,
Mr.
King’s
mother,
Dana
Archer-King,
posted
16
her
son’s
fundraiser
on
Facebook,
causing
local
and
17
national
media
to
take
interest
in
the
story;
and
18
WHEREAS,
on
September
17,
2019,
Busch
Light
and
19
Venmo
both
pledged
to
match
whatever
money
Mr.
King
was
20
able
to
raise
through
the
end
of
September;
and
21
WHEREAS,
after
Mr.
King
appeared
on
Scott
Van
Pelt’s
22
“One
Big
Thing”,
“Good
Morning
America”,
NBC
News,
23
CNN,
and
“Fox
and
Friends”,
other
companies,
including
24
Northwest
Mutual,
Prairie
Meadows
Casino,
Dewitt
25
Construction,
and
Goldie’s
Ice
Cream
Shoppe
began
26
making
donations;
and
27
WHEREAS,
by
the
end
of
September,
2019,
donations,

matching
gifts,
reached
$2,959,336;
and

WHEREAS,
West
Des
Moines-based
Doll
Distributing,

the
local
distributor
for
Busch
Light,
sought
donations

from
its
distributors
from
across
the
state
to
boost

donations
to
$3,000,000;
and
5
WHEREAS,
in
total,
over
35,000
Venmo
users
donated
6
to
Mr.
King’s
fundraiser,
with
donations
coming
from
7
all
50
states;
and
8
WHEREAS,
on
October
11,
2019,
Mr.
King
presented
a
9
check
for
$3,004,202.14
to
the
University
of
Iowa
Stead

Family
Children’s
Hospital;

THEREFORE,

IT
RESOLVED
BY
THE
SENATE,
That
the
Senate

recognizes
Carson
King
as
an
outstanding
citizen
of
the

State
of
Iowa
for
his
support
of
the
University
of

Hospital.
