Senate Resolution 101 - Introduced SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 101 BY WHITVER and PETERSEN A Resolution honoring and congratulating Janet Hawkins. 1 WHEREAS, Janet Hawkins grew up on a family farm and 2 lived in small towns in Iowa during her childhood; and 3 WHEREAS, Janet attended Iowa State University, 4 graduating with a degree in elementary education and 5 special education; and 6 WHEREAS, after several years of teaching, Janet 7 accepted a position with the Iowa Legislative Service 8 Bureau in 1992 as a proofreader, learning, literally, 9 how a bill becomes a law; and 10 WHEREAS, in 1993, Janet transitioned to working 11 in the Iowa Code Office and the Administrative Code 12 Office, learning what happens “after” a bill becomes a 13 law; and 14 WHEREAS, in 1999, Janet accepted a position as a 15 member of the Senate staff, remaining for over twenty 16 years, enjoying the many friendships she developed 17 throughout the Capitol, diligently and painstakingly 18 tracking and processing bills and amendments, and 19 striving for excellence with the goal always to avoid 20 delay and disruption in the legislative process; and 21 WHEREAS, Janet will be missed not only for the 22 enthusiasm, dedication, professionalism, thoroughness, 23 expertise, reasoned judgment, and institutional 24 knowledge she brought to her position, but for the way 25 she approached her position, with modesty, integrity, 26 sincerity, civility, patience, kindness, respect, and 27 grace; and 28 -1- LSB 5718SS (6) 88 pf/rn 1/ 2
S.R. 101 WHEREAS, as Janet goes on to enjoy volunteering, 1 traveling, cheering for the Iowa State Cyclones, 2 and spending more time with her family, including 3 her husband John, and their children and families, 4 Jill (Roger) Lutz residing in Iowa, Ryan (Anabel) 5 Hawkins residing in Colorado, and Matt (Kelsey) 6 Hawkins residing in Alabama, and most especially 7 making memories with her grandchildren Juliana, Emily, 8 Mathias, and Luciana, the impact she has made on the 9 state of Iowa and the work of the Iowa General Assembly 10 will endure; NOW THEREFORE, 11 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That Janet Hawkins 12 be publicly recognized for her years of service to 13 the state of Iowa and the Iowa General Assembly, and 14 congratulated on her retirement; and 15 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a formal copy of this 16 Resolution be presented to Janet Hawkins, with the 17 heartfelt thanks and good wishes of the Senate. 18 -2- LSB 5718SS (6) 88 pf/rn 2/ 2
