S.F. 213 Section 1. NEW SECTION . 724.4D Limitation on employers —— 1 firearms and ammunition. 2 1. For purposes of this section, “employee” includes a 3 contract employee or volunteer. 4 2. A public or private employer shall not prohibit an 5 employee in possession of a permit issued pursuant to section 6 724.6 or 724.7 from carrying, transporting, or possessing 7 a firearm or ammunition, if the firearm and ammunition are 8 out of sight and inside the locked motor vehicle of the 9 employee on the real property comprising the employee’s place 10 of employment, provided the motor vehicle is parked in a 11 location designated or allowed for employee parking, and if 12 the carrying, transportation, or possession of the firearm or 13 ammunition is otherwise lawful under the laws of this state. 14 EXPLANATION 15 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 16 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 17 This bill provides that an employer shall not prohibit an 18 employee, which includes contract employees and volunteers, 19 who possess a professional or nonprofessional permit to carry 20 weapons from carrying, transporting, or possessing a firearm or 21 ammunition on the real property comprising the employee’s place 22 of employment if the firearm and ammunition are out of sight 23 and inside the locked motor vehicle of the employee, provided 24 the vehicle is parked in a location designated or allowed for 25 employee parking, and if the carrying, transportation, or 26 possession of the firearm or ammunition is otherwise lawful 27 under Iowa law. 28 -1- LSB 1077XS (5) 88 mo/rh 1/ 1
