S.F. 2074 Section 1. NEW SECTION . 55.4A Adverse employment actions 1 prohibited. 2 An employer employing persons in this state shall not take 3 any adverse action against an employee who is a resident of 4 Iowa for seeking election to any public office or prohibit an 5 employee who is a resident of Iowa from seeking election to a 6 public office. 7 EXPLANATION 8 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 9 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 10 This bill prohibits an employer employing persons in Iowa 11 from taking an adverse action against an employee who is 12 an Iowa resident for running for a public office and from 13 prohibiting an employee who is an Iowa resident from running 14 for a public office. 15 By operation of law, a person who willfully violates a 16 provision of this bill is guilty of a serious misdemeanor. A 17 serious misdemeanor is punishable by confinement for no more 18 than one year and a fine of at least $315 but not more than 19 $1,875. 20 -1- LSB 5600XS (1) 88 ss/jh 1/ 1
