H.F. _____ Section 1. Section 154C.3, subsection 3, Code 2019, is 1 amended to read as follows: 2 3. License renewal and continuing education. Licenses 3 shall be renewed biennially, and licensees shall pay a fee for 4 renewal as determined by the board and shall present evidence 5 satisfactory to the board that the licensee has satisfied 6 continuing education requirements as determined by the board. 7 The board shall not limit the number of continuing education 8 credits that may be obtained online in satisfying continuing 9 education requirements. 10 Sec. 2. Section 154D.3, subsection 1, paragraph e, Code 11 2019, is amended to read as follows: 12 e. Educational activities which fulfill continuing education 13 requirements for license renewals. The board shall not limit 14 the number of continuing education credits that may be obtained 15 online by marital and family therapists or mental health 16 counselors in fulfilling continuing education requirements. 17 EXPLANATION 18 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 19 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 20 This bill relates to continuing education requirements for 21 licensed social workers, marital and family therapists, and 22 mental health counselors. The bill prohibits the board of 23 social work from limiting the number of continuing education 24 credits that social workers may obtain online and the board 25 of behavioral science from limiting the number of continuing 26 education credits that marital and family therapists and mental 27 health counselors may obtain online. 28 -1- LSB 2135YC (2) 88 ss/rn 1/ 1
