the

3.
EFFECTIVE
DATE.
This
Act,
being
deemed
of
immediate
15
importance,
takes
effect
upon
enactment.

EXPLANATION

The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with
18
the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

This
bill
eliminates
an
eligibility
requirement
under
20
the
senior
year
plus
program
that
requires
students
to
21
have
demonstrated
proficiency
in
reading,
mathematics,
and
22
science
prior
to
participating
in
the
program,
and
modifies
23
authorization
for
a
community
college’s
assessment
of
student
24
readiness
under
the
district-to-community
college
sharing
or
25
concurrent
enrollment
program.
The
bill
includes
a
conforming
26
change.

Currently,
a
community
college
may
require
a
student
who
28
applies
for
enrollment
under
a
district-to-community
college
29
sharing
or
concurrent
enrollment
program
to
complete
an
30
initial
assessment
to
determine
the
applicant’s
readiness
to
31
enroll
in
career
and
technical
coursework,
and
the
community
32
college
may
deny
the
enrollment.
The
bill
broadens
a
community
33
college’s
ability
to
assess
student
readiness
for
any
34
district-to-community
college
sharing
or
concurrent
enrollment
