H.F. _____ Section 1. Section 321.194, subsection 2, paragraph a, Code 1 2020, is amended by adding the following new subparagraph: 2 NEW SUBPARAGRAPH . (03) If the licensee resides on a farm 3 or is employed for compensation on a farm in this state, 4 the licensee may operate a motor vehicle during the hours 5 of 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. for the purpose of assisting the 6 person’s parents, guardians, or employers with farm work or in 7 connection with any farm job, employment, or other farm-related 8 work, including traveling to or from the location of the farm 9 work, provided the driving distance between the point of origin 10 and the destination is no more than fifty miles. 11 Sec. 2. Section 321.194, subsection 2, paragraph a, 12 subparagraph (3), Code 2020, is amended to read as follows: 13 (3) To a service station for the purpose of refueling, so 14 long as the service station is the station closest to the route 15 on which the licensee is traveling under subparagraph (1) , or 16 (2) , or (03) . 17 EXPLANATION 18 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 19 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 20 Under current law, a person holding a special minor’s 21 driver’s license is allowed to operate a motor vehicle during 22 the hours of 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. between the licensee’s 23 residence, schools of enrollment, bus stops, and sites, 24 facilities, or schools designated by the licensee’s district 25 or school of enrollment for the accommodation of the school’s 26 extracurricular activities, with certain limitations. This 27 bill allows a person holding a special minor’s driver’s license 28 who resides on a farm or is employed for compensation on a 29 farm in this state to operate a motor vehicle during the hours 30 of 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. for the purpose of assisting the 31 person’s parents, guardians, or employers with farm work or in 32 connection with any farm job, employment, or other farm-related 33 work, including traveling to or from the location of the farm 34 work, provided the driving distance between the point of origin 35 -1- LSB 5820HC (1) 88 mo/ns 1/ 2
H.F. _____ and the destination is no more than 50 miles. The bill also 1 allows a licensee to operate a motor vehicle to a service 2 station along the associated routes. 3 A violation of Code section 321.194 is punishable by a 4 scheduled fine of $50. 5 -2- LSB 5820HC (1) 88 mo/ns 2/ 2
