S.F. _____ H.F. _____ Section 1. Section 602.1501, Code 2019, is amended to read 1 as follows: 2 602.1501 Judicial salaries. 3 1. The chief justice and each justice of the supreme court 4 shall receive the salary set by the general assembly supreme 5 court from funds appropriated to the judicial branch . 6 2. The chief judge and each judge of the court of appeals 7 shall receive the salary set by the general assembly supreme 8 court from funds appropriated to the judicial branch . 9 3. The chief judge of each judicial district and each 10 district judge shall receive the salary set by the general 11 assembly supreme court from funds appropriated to the judicial 12 branch . 13 4. District associate judges shall receive the salary set 14 by the general assembly supreme court from funds appropriated 15 to the judicial branch . 16 5. Full-time associate juvenile judges and full-time 17 associate probate judges shall receive the salary set by the 18 general assembly supreme court from funds appropriated to the 19 judicial branch . 20 6. Magistrates shall receive the salary set by the general 21 assembly supreme court from funds appropriated to the judicial 22 branch , subject to section 602.6402 . 23 EXPLANATION 24 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 25 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 26 Currently, the general assembly determines the salaries of 27 judges.
